Service Description

Gain essential skills in wave modeling with our Delft3D FM – Wave Modeling course, designed for coastal engineers and researchers. Waves play a crucial role in designing structures such as breakwaters, storm surge barriers, and levees, making detailed wave information indispensable. Using the D-Waves module powered by SWAN, part of the Delft3D FM Suite, you will learn to simulate wave processes, wave-current interactions, and more. What You’ll Learn This course blends theory and hands-on exercises to help you build practical expertise in wave modeling. You will: • Understand wave processes such as shoaling, dispersion, and wave spectra. • Set up wave simulations using the D-Waves module. • Simulate wave-current interactions by coupling D-Waves with hydrodynamic models. • Explore wave propagation, generation by wind, non-linear wave interactions, and dissipation in coastal waters. • Use D-Waves to model waves in estuaries, tidal inlets, barrier islands, and other complex environments. The course also covers how to: • Steer and control different processes in your wave simulations. • Utilize D-Waves for both stand-alone simulations or as part of a coupled system with D-Flow FM for wave-driven currents. Who Should Attend? This course is ideal for: • Project engineers, researchers, PhD students, and project leaders with knowledge of basic wave processes. Whether you are new to wave modeling or looking to advance your skills, this course provides the tools to apply wave simulations for research and engineering projects. Course Format and Dates This online course combines self-paced learning with instructor-led sessions, allowing flexibility while ensuring access to expert guidance. Online sessions: • Session 1: Tuesday, March 11, 2025 – 10AM PT / 1PM ET to 2PM PT / 5PM ET • Session 2: Thursday, March 13, 2025 – 10AM PT / 1PM ET to 2PM PT / 5PM ET To maintain quality, we limit the course to 15 participants per trainer, ensuring personalized support and time for Q&A. Preparation and Technical Requirements Before the course, participants will receive: • Delft3D FM Suite + course license (valid for 3 months) System Requirements: • A Windows OS computer (required for Delft3D FM) Sign up now and gain the skills to simulate wave processes and model wave-current interactions using the latest tools in Delft3D FM!
